Yes, I admit the cappuccino is very expensive –and even more when the orchestra is playing- but the historic, majestic splendour and its location right on the Piazza San Marco makes you quickly forget. Caffè Florian, Italy’s very first coffee house opened in the 18th century. It was a well-known favourite of celebrities as Goethe, Charles Dickens and Casanova. As for Casanova, a cup of coffee was probably not the only reason to visit Caffè Florian… At that time women were only allowed to frequent Caffè Florian. Other cafés were an exclusive man thing.

Indertijd waren dames enkel toegelaten in Caffè Florian. Andere cafés waren een exclusieve mannenaangelegenheid.
